Subect:  Incentive-Based Student Activities

Dear Zela Parent,

Zela Elementary School will have multiple incentive-based student activities this school year to designed to boost student motivation for academic achievement, behavior, and attendance.

Attendance:  Students have a laminated “Zoo” page at school.  They can earn an animal sticker for each week that they have perfect attendance.  Students that have perfect attendance for at least 16 weeks out of the 22-week period from October 1 through May 2 will be eligible to attend a field trip to a real zoo.  Students that are not eligible will not be eligible to attend.

Academic Learning Goals: Students that meet their academic learning goals will be eligible to attend a special activity at the end of the first semester and end of the school year.  This could be a field trip.  Grades 3, 4, and 5 eligibility is based on IXL points (50 per semester).  Grades K, 1, and 2 are based on books read as measured by AR (Accelerated Reader) points and each student is pre-assigned a points goal based upon their ability.

Behavior (Safety, Respect, Responsibility): Students can earn eligibility to monthly reward activities by meeting school behavioral expectations and not having any referrals to the RBA (Responsible Behavior Academy), or making amends as stated on the RBA form.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  We will have other opportunities that are not incentive-based, where all students can attend.  Zela Elementary strives to create a school culture with high expectations for success.
